Tech Tuesday: The iPhone Finally Comes To Verizon

After four long years, the iPhone will no longer be exclusive to AT&T…. Finally!

The much anticipated Verizon iPhone will be available to customers on February 10th with pre-orders for current Verizon customers beginning on February 3rd. The smartphone will be available in 2 versions, identical to AT&T – the 16GB version will go for $199 and the 32GB version for $299 both require a two-year service agreement.

Verizon wasn’t quick to announce the monthly service plans for the popular Apple device just yet.

The iPhone itself is not a new model, but Verizon does have one advantage with their device – the new “personal hotspot” feature. This new feature will allow you to tether up to five devices when there is no Wi-Fi around. There is one disadvantage with the Verizon iPhone, though,  users will NOT be able to talk on the phone while using 3G due to it’s CDMA technology- something that is not an issue for AT&T iPhone users.

Please don’t be fooled and rush out to get the iPhone 4 with Verizon – it is NOT a new model. Dropped calls may still be an issue with Verizon as they are not prepared for the surge of customers that will be coming their way to get their hands on the new device. Remember, Apple releases a new iPhone every summer and you don’t want to end up with an outdated iPhone and stuck in a two-year contract.
