Tech Tuesday, Cyber Monday?

Nov 30, 2010 No Comments by Farzad

So you missed out on Cyber Monday. Wait a minute….what the heck is Cyber Monday and when did people become so obsessed with it?

Last night, as I arrived at my parent’s home for dinner, I found my Mom glued to the computer. Why was she glued to the computer, you ask? It just so happens that yesterday was Cyber Monday, the biggest online shopping day of the year. Just in case you didn’t get your fill on Black Friday, the biggest retail shopping day of the year, Cyber Monday was there to scratch your shopping itch.

Somehow, I had no idea what this was. How was it that I only learned of Cyber Monday on Cyber Monday?! “No worries”, I thought to myself, “that’s what eBay is for.”

So, “Cyber Monday” is the couch potato’s “Black Friday” — and no, my Mom is not a couch potato. What happens to those of us who didn’t know about Cyber Monday? I’ve got a couple of websites I’d like to share with you to cure that “left out” feeling that we (and I hope I’m not the only one) might have right about now.

 Gilt.com, Jetsetter.com, GiltMan.com
These 3 websites, the last two being the spawn of the original Gilt.com, offer more than just great deals clothing, housewares and travel; they offer great customer service. I have purchased many great things (boots, books, clothes and yes, even champagne flutes) from the website and have found each one to be of superior quality. Gilt (meaning “to be covered in gold”) really makes you feel like royalty — royalty that just got a great deal on a Jack Spade duffle coat.

Invitation required to become a member but don’t worry, they’ll get you in sooner rather than later.

NewEgg.com

A well-known gem in the nerd community, NewEgg.com offers various computer parts, accessories and gaming equipment at discounted rates. Even better, they offer unlocked cell-phones at the same price as many service providers without the contract extension. So if you, say, “accidentally” dropped your cell phone in the punch bowl at Thanksgiving dinner, you can probably find a quick, less-expensive replacement at NewEgg.com.

ThinkGeek.com

As you may recall from a previous Tech Tuesday, ThinkGeek.com has an abundant amount of great holiday gifts for everyone. This is the perfect website to find a gift for that annoying White Elephant party your office throws every year. Well…I suppose it’s not that annoying.

Daily, Tech Tuesdays
